Filmmaker Vikas Bahl's romantic comedy film `Shaandaar` starring Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt has received an overwhelming response in global markets. The film has collected $2.1 million during its opening weekend.

`Shaandaar`, which released on Thursday on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, is doing well internationally. The film's opening weekend collection internationally is the highest for Shahid, read a statement.

The film collected $449,556 in the US and $258,519 in Britain. In Pakistan, where `Shaandaar` released on Sunday, the film did well as it collected $64,400.

Some of Shahid's other films which did well abroad during their run include `Haider` ($2.2 million), `Phata Poster Nikhla Hero` ($1.1 million) and `R... Rajkumar` ($1.5 million).

However, `Shaandaar`, which also stars Pankaj Kapur, Sanjay Kapoor and Sanah Kapoor, among others, didn't get a good response at the Indian box office as its collections dwindled over the weekend, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

`#Shaandaar Thursday Rs.13.10 crore (holiday), Friday Rs.7.55 crore, Saturday Rs.6.75 crore, Sunday Rs.6.11 crore. Total: Rs.33.51 crore. India biz. DISAPPOINTING,` Adarsh tweeted.

`#Shaandaar is a FIASCO. Biz continued to dwindle, with Saturday and Sunday offering no respite. The film has been rejected,` he added.

Imtiaz Ali shares a warm bond with Ranbir Kapoor ever since they worked together in 'Rockstar' (2011).

The filmmaker gelled with RK, but not with 'Rockstar' actress Nargis Fakhri, whom he launched in Bollywood.

When the film was being shot, the unit was like a close-knit family, but once it wrapped up, things changed - Nargis realised that's how Bollywood functions.

It has been a long exercise for Anushka to adapt to the minutest details required her character as a jazz singer in the film. Infact, jazz plays a vital role in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. Even the title of the film comes from the name of the jazz club ‘Bombay Velvet’ in the film. Anushka also put in a lot of effort and time to get the correct look for the film. Bombay Velvet is set to hit the silver screen on 15th May.
